Facebook has rolled out a new feature and it may prove to be a privacy nightmare for many. This latest update is opening up of all the Facebook public posts to its search functionality. This means over 2 trillion posts are now available through search.
What does it mean for you? It means all the posts that you shared with 'Friends of friends' or 'Public' can now be searched by anyone, whether he is your friend or not. Yes, we know that sounds a bit worrisome.
With the new search feature all your awkward confessions and weird melodramatic status updates are literally out in the open. Anyone who has been stalking you or wants to make your life miserable can bring the past to haunt you. Or your prospective employers can go on Facebook and do a search in a bid to peek into your weekend life. So what can you do? Worry not, there is a way out of this trap set by Facebook. Here is what you should do:

-- Go to 'Settings' from arrow button at the top right corner of the screen
-- Select 'Privacy' from the panel on the left
-- Under the 'Who can see my stuff?' section, select 'Limit the audience for posts I've shared with friends of friends or Public?'

Click on 'Limit old posts'
This setting change means all the posts that you have shared with friends of friends or public in the past will become inaccessible through the search box and will only be available to your friends. But there is another catch here. If you had tagged a friend in some post, he or she will still be tagged. Same goes for the posts where you had selected Custom audience, i.e. post shared with Friends except XYZ.

There is something that you should know before clicking 'Limit old posts'. Once you have used this tool to make all those old posts available only to your friends, you won't be able to change them back to 'Friends of friends' or 'Public'. If you wish to roll back your decision, you will have to manually select each such post and change the audience.
